Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday disclosed that its operatives have arrested some suspected cultists from different raids carried out in some
flashpoints across the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal,
who confirmed the arrests said the operatives also recovered their weapons as
evidence.
According to him, "In a case of conspiracy and
unlawful possession of firearms and armed robbery, the command undercover
operatives in conjunction with men of the FSARS smashed an armed robbery
syndicate that usually operates in Ladi Lak Bariga, Fadeyi, Onipanu, Ikoyi,
Victoria Island and Ilasan areas of the state.
"The suspects include 30-year-old Ibrahim
Odulana alias Santa; 25-year-old
Ahmed Alegbe aka 'Big Ahmed’; 20-year-old Adebayo
Fabiyi; 27-year-old Balogun Segun a.k.a ‘Paparazzi’, and 35-year-old Abass Ganiyu."
According to the CP, they all confessed to being
members of Eiye confraternity and had been robbing people at the aforementioned
places.
He said exhibits recovered from them were one pump
action riffle, two locally made pistols, eight live cartridges, one Samsung
handset and one itel handset.
Also arrested for similar offences in Ajegunle area
of the state were 32-year-old Chinonso Uzoma and 25-year-old Seun Alaba and one
locally made pistol and one expended cartridge were recovered from them.
Edgal said they were arrested by men of Ajegunle
Division in conjunction with a team of FSARS operatives, adding that all the
suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigation is over.
Meanwhile, credible information has been received
by the O/C Anti-Cult Unit on the activities of a notorious cultist, Fatai
Olayinka, a member of the Eiye confraternity.
Based on the information, the commissioner said the
suspect was trailed and arrested at Owode Onirin, where he was in the process
of selling one stolen Toyota Avanza car with Registration No. EPE-124-DH, brown
colour.
The suspect confessed to have stolen the said car
and confirmed to belong to the Eiye confraternity.
Also, at Itire area, Emordi Daniel, Adeyemi
Raphael, Oloruko Oba Sunday,
Kumo Sodiq, Omotayo Hafiz and Olowokere Michael
were also arrested for cult activities.
At Ikorodu, the duo of Taye Kasali and Dare Ayoola
were arrested while Yinka Oyetoka,
Rasheed Orefuwa, Adekunle Sheu, Kunle
Lateef, Jimoh Azeez and Segun Mojere were also arrested.
At Aboki Estate on Elegushi Beach area, the trio of
Tosin Yusuf, Damilare Adebowale and Ogunlade Ademola were arrested while others
Ibeji Chukwuka, Paul Ehimika and Isaac
Caleb were arrested at Ajangbadi.
At Badagry,
the duo of Afeez Abubaka and Ahmed Jamiu were picked up and one Emmanuel Okon
was arrested at Oworonsoki.
Edgal said all the arrested suspects would be charged
to court at the end of investigations.
