The non-payment of salaries of Kogi State workers
by the state government, has been attributed to the death of a deputy director in
the Ministry of Education who slumped on Tuesday and died on the spot.
The civil servant, Mr. David Haruna, was in the
quality control department of the ministry.
According to an eye witnessed account, David was
said to have complained to his colleagues the hardships he was passing through
following the nonpayment of salaries by the state government.
According to a ministry sources, the deputy director

clock-out’ for civil servants in the state,
a practice that was introduced by the present Governor, Alhaji Yahaya
Bello. Those who had interactions with
David at work earlier in the day said he was full of life in the morning.
He was however said to have complained that in the last few weeks, it has been difficult meeting his family obligations, adding that in the
last three days he had to beg from neighbours to feed his family.

paid in February 2018 with half salary that could not pay his backlogs of debt
he incurred before the payment of the 50 percent salary.
Until his death, the late David was said to be a
hardworking person and diligent in his work, but died as a result of non-payment
of salary, as he could not fulfilled his family financial obligations. Meanwhile, the state Chairman of Nigeria
Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Onuh Edoka, said the union has directed one of their
