Boko Haram: Army frees three recaptured Borno local government areas for relocation

The Nigerian Army today said three of the 20 local government areas of Borno State recaptured from the Boko Haram members are now free to be inhabited by fleeing residents.

The three local government areas include Konduga, Bama and Gwoza and as a preliminary step towards relocating the local governments and building the confidence of the fleeing residents of the area to return back, camps have been built in the towns.

The Nigerian army has also commenced medical outreach aimed at giving free medical treatment to those affected by the insurgency in the liberated towns.

Speaking to journalists while conducting them round one of the liberated town, Konduga, where he visited the medical outreach established by the Nigerian army in the town, the Commander of the 7 Division of the Nigerian army with headquarters in Maiduguri, Major General Lamidi Adeosun, said Maiduguri has been overstretched and there is immediate need for the fleeing residents to return to their towns and villages.

He explained that in order to do this, the confidence of the people need to be rebuilt and one of the ways to do this is by putting in place the needed infrastructure which informed the decision of the Nigerian army to establish medical outreach to take care of the health needs of the returning residents.

He disclosed that the medical outreach in Konduga has already treated about 1,000 IDPs from about 20 surrounding villages of the town.

Adeosun said the medical outreach which was initially introduced in Maiduguri was extended yesterday to Konduga and will consequently be moved to other liberated towns to rebuild the confidence of the people of the areas to return back home.

Drug Insecurity: House Urges FG to Fund Indigenous Drug Research

The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the federal government to invest more in the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development in order to encourage local and indigenous research. Court Stops National Assembly From Taking Over Bauchi Assembly

As the National Assembly received a report from the committee it sent to Bauchi State to probe the leadership crisis rocking the state assembly since its inauguration last month, the state high court on Monday issued an order of interim injunction ordering that the present Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Suleiman and Danlami Kawule respectively,   should continue leading the assembly pending the determination of the suit before it.
