Players, Officials of Giwa FC Jos Attacked by Robbers in Imo

Officials and players of Giwa Football Club of Jos in Plateau State were today attacked by armed robbers on their way to play Abia Worriors FC in Umuahia, Abia State.
While confirming the incident in a telephone interview, Media Officer of the team, Sammy Adesoji, told journalists that they were attacked around Okigwe in Imo State.

“We were around Okigwe at about 9 p.m. on Monday, on our way to Umuahia to play Abia Worriors, when we sighted a road block, so our driver slowed down, only to discover that the people stopping us were armed robbers.
“They were carrying guns, and forced our driver out of the vehicle and gave him serious beating; he is now receiving medical attention.
“The robbers told the players that they are aware that their salaries are paid promptly so they should bring out money, phones, ipads among others.
“As they were collecting the items, they heard a patrol team approaching, so they took to their heels into the forest.
“Honestly we thank God and commend the effort of the security patrol team that came to our rescue and escorted us to our destination.
“We were all terrified by the incident, but as I speak to you, we are in Umuahia and are battle ready for tomorrow's match,” Adesoji assured.
