Benue: Death Toll Rises In Fulani,Agatu Crises

The number of people who have died in the renewed Fulani herders/Agatu farmers hostility has increased to 12 even as there are fears about the condition of several persons who are said to be missing.

Akwu, Adagbo and Ayila communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State were last Tuesday afternoon attacked resulting in the death of three persons.

However, the member of the state House of Assembly representing Agatu state constituency, Hon Sule Audu, who spoke to Nigerian Pilot on phone today said the death toll has since increased while the bodies of others suspected to have been killed were yet to be recovered.

"As am speaking to you now, a large number of the attackers are still crossing over to Agatu. A source in Nasarawa state just told me that they are being transported through motorcycles to Loco from where they cross over to Agatu," Sule explained.

He said he had reported the matter to the police and have been assured that policemen have been sent to the area to quell the crisis.

Audu also disclosed that a delegation of Agatu elders met with the state governor, Samuel Ortom to find a lasting solution to the incessant crisis.
