Boat Mishap Kills 13 in Jigawa 

Boat has capsized at river Gilbi village of Jahun local government area of jigawa State, killing 13 people.

The incident occurred between two river community in a village which is about 50 kilometres away from the state capital of Dutse.

The boat had mostly young females when it capsized at a river Gilbi between Tsuburi Darai and Gilma villages in Jahun local government area of the state.

The state Executive Secretary of Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Yusuf Sani Babura, told journalists today in Dutse that the rescue team are still at the river searching for the dead bodies.

He also confirmed that 13 peoples lost their lives during the boat mishap, adding that the search teams are trying to rescue those who are yet to be identified involved in the incident.

Sani said: "Young girls under 9 to 12 years old were loaded in two boats on their way from Tsuburi Darai village to cross the river to Gilma village to attend wedding ceremony when the tragedy occurred."
Spokesman of the police in the state, DSP Abdul Jinjiri, confirmed that boat capsized with scores of young girls on board.

He stated that seven died on the spot while rescuers are still looking for other dead bodies.
