The Rivers State Government today advised Dr. Dakuku Peterside to stop crying wolf and trying to incite President Muhammadu Buhari and the military against the state Governor, Nyesom Wike, and the people of the state.
This was the reaction to allegations by Peterside, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) in the last governorship election in the state, that Wike allegedly influenced the judgment of the Supreme Court that confirmed him winner of the his election and that Wike was wrongly threatening officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ), the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Austin Tam-George, said Peterside deliberately seeking attention.
He berated Peterside's attack on the judiciary, especially on former Governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, and his wife, Mary, stating that Justice Odili was in the panel that gave judgment against Wike on the issue of territorial jurisdiction of the tribunal.
"Why then did Governor Wike lose his appeal to the Supreme Court on the proper venue where the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal should sit? After all the distinguished Honourable Justice Mary Odili was on that panel of the Supreme Court and Governor Wike lost the appeal. Then, 'there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the Supreme Court'.
"The advice that was given by Odili was purely fatherly which Wike took and it served him well unlike Peterside who never seek wise counsel or allow themselves to be guided by wise counsel,” the commissioner stated.
