A 20-feet heavy duty truck conveying a container laden with goods on Wednesday detached at the  Kara Bridge along the Lagos Ibadan Express Way, Ogun State killing a toddler and three adult males. 

The head of the containerised truck was said to have detached from it's body while on motion inward Karra bridge and rammed into a motorcycle rider and his two passengers.

While the toddler, a three-year-old boy, died on the spot from the impact of the clash, his mother had a leg fracture and has since been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the head of the truck plunged into Isheri Olofi River, drowning the driver and two other passengers in the truck.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, said the minor and three adult males were brought out dead.

He said: "The agency received a distress call through the emergency toll free number 112/767 concerning an accident on Kara Bridge along the Lagos Ibadan Express Way. 

"On arrival at the scene, the LASEMA Response Team gathered that a 20feet containerised truck with unknown plate number was involved in the accident. 

"Further investigation revealed that the head of the containerised truck detached from it's body while on motion inward Karra bridge and rammed into a motorcycle with the rider and two passengers.

"Meanwhile, the head of the truck plunged into Isheri Olofi River. Unfortunately, a three-year-old boy on the motorcycle lost his life, while his mother had a leg fracture."

He further said: "The mother has been moved to the hospital by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

"The head of the truck that plunged into the river has been  recovered from the river with the aid of the heavy duty equipment crane with support from local divers. 

"Subsequently, the bodies of three adult males were extricated and recovered from the truck's head and handed over to FRSC officials who moved them to the morgue.

"Other agencies on ground include the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), the Lagos State Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Police Force from Ojodu and Isheri Police Division and OP Mesa.

"Proper investigation would be conducted on the incident but I advise motorists, especially articulated truck drivers to always drive within the restricted roads and ensure they adhere with road safety regulations."
