Kwankwaso Suspends Planned Visit To Kano, Summoned To Aso Rock With Ganduje

Rabiu Kwankwaso, Senator representing Kano central and former Governor of the state, against his earlier resolve, has suspended his planned visit to Kano earlier scheduled for Tuesday, January 30.
It would be recalled that the state police Commissioner, Mr Rabi’u Yusuf, had last Friday advised against the planned visit for security reasons following a stand-off between Kwankwaso, and Abdullahi Ganduje, Governor of Kano state, who was Kwankwaso’s deputy all through the eight years he presided over Kano but both men fell apart shortly after the 2015 elections.
Kwankwaso had insisted that he would visit as planned, however, the Chairman of Kwankwaso Visit Reception Committee, Dr Rabi’u Bichi, announced the suspension while addressing newsmen in Kano on Monday revealing that the decision followed the intervention of some well-meaning Nigerians who called from home and abroad.
“This standoff has attracted the attention of well-meaning Nigerians at home and abroad,” he said.
“They have called to give advice that mostly borders on the preservation of lives and property of our supporters and admirers.
“In view of the above and after lengthy consultations with well-meaning Nigerians, we painfully have decided to shelve the visit at the moment.
“It is important to state that Kwankwaso’s visit will never be a reason to deliberately inconvenience any citizen, small or big let alone spill a drop of blood.
“We, therefore, appeal for peace, calm and call on our supporters to disregard any provocative statement.”
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso, and Ganduje have been summoned to the presidential villa in Abuja over the feud between the two of them.
On Monday, the Governor, accompanied by two serving Senators and two members of the House of Representatives from the state, met with Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to the president.
Ganduje, however, declined to speak with state house correspondents after the meeting.
Kwankwaso is also expected to meet with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa later in the day.

Population of Doctors in Nigeria Hits 74,543

  The number of registered medical doctors in Nigeria has risen to 74,543. According to the federal government statistics, as at 2018, the stock of professionally regulated health workers in Nigeria health sector has also recorded a significant increase. The population equates to 36.3 percent of medical doctors per 100,000 population (doctor to population ratio of 1: 2753). Fifty-nine percent of the registered medical practitioners were in good standing with 35 percent being females. UBEC Board Chairman, Daughter Freed from Captivity

The Board Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr. Muhammed Mahmoud, and his daughter were on Tuesday released by their abductors. Mahmoud, his daughter and several other travellers were abducted last Monday on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway when suspected bandits open fire at them. The UBEC boss’ driver was said to have been killed during the incident. There has been no information about other commuters who were abducted by the bandits. Mahmood's freedom was confirmed in a telephone interview by Hussaini Danladi, a relation, who said they were freed from captivity at about noon yesterday. Danladi, however, did not say whether a ransom was paid before their release.
