Tragedy struck at the sleepy town of Garki Ugwuoba in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday  as two excavators lost their lives in a burrow pit.
The Public Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Enugu state Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the tragic incident in a statemet made available to journalists said the identity of the victims were yet to be ascertained.

They were said to have met their waterloo while excavating sand at the site as the sand they were excavating suddenly slide and buried them underneath.
 
Amaraizu said that the incident threw people in the site to shock and mourning mood as they could not explain how it suddenly happened.

According to the PPRO, sources within the area revealed that the victims hailed from Nibo in Awka South local Government Area of Anambra state but excavate sand into lorry tippers at the site.

He said their remains were later recovered with the assistance of the Oji River Police Operatives who had contacted an Excavator that assisted to recover their dead bodies from the disaster scene.

The bodies, according to the PPRO, were deposited at the hospital mortuary  of General hospital Oji River for autopsy and further necessary action.

"Meanwhile, one of the workers who allegedly escaped the incident as he had gone out before then probably to ease himself, is still in deep shock how he lost his two co workers suddenly and how the incident would have claimed his life. He is now receiving medical attention," he said
