Gboko Boils As Ortom Impose Dusk to Dawn Curfew ...Mob Kills Seven Men

Seven men suspected to be herdsmen were on Wednesday killed at the Gboko motor park, Benue State by some irate youths.

According to the state Police Commissioner, Mr Fatah Owoseni, the police got a report around 11a.m.  that some irate youths  at the Gboko motor park attacked some passengers who were on transit.

The victims he said  seven in numbers were killed while boarding vehicle at the park

He also disclosed that the police in the area rushed to the park but were overwhelmed by the youths who were throwing stones.

"We have been at the spot with the Benue state governor and its a pure case of banditry and also an act of criminality  taking place," Owoseni said.

The commissioner also said the crises is not about religion or ethnicity.

"We have set a motion that will apprehend this criminal and they will be arrested while we  are also going to beef up our security in the area"

Adding that the governor has addressed all the different tribes in the area while also urging them to remain peaceful.

He appealed to the people of Gboko to assist the police to fish out the criminals.

He also stated that the police has  information that some criminal gangs are planning to attack the state from both outside and within.

He warned that the police will not hesitate to deal decisively with any one abating the crises in the state
"All those especially prominent people who are stockpiling arms and planning to arm youths will be dealt decisively with if caught"

He however seek cooperation from residents of the area so as to fish out criminals from the state 

Meanwhile a dusk to dawn curfew has has been imposed on Gboko town by the State Governor, Mr Samuel Ortom.

The curfew which will last from 6 pm to 6 am every day is as a result of security threats in the area. 

In a statement issued to journalists by his adviser on media, Mr Tahav Agerzua, said those on essential services are "exempted from the curfew are those on essential services such as hospital staff and others who show convincing identification."

The governor also directed security agencies particularly the police and the army to provide round the clock surveillance in the town so as to forestall a breach of the peace.

He also appealed to residents of Gboko to comply with the curfew in their own interest as security operatives have been directed to arrest those found moving about in the town during the period of the curfew.
