Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has declared that despite myriads of challenges facing the country, there was still no alternative to democratic governance where the people are given free hands to choose their leaders.

He however noted that for there to be rapid development of a nation, the people must ensure that they elect credible leaders with great vision.

Ekweremadu who spoke at a two-day inspection tour of projects that he attracted to Enugu West senatorial district said the extent of development of any people is dependent on the vision of their leaders.

According to him, when leaders have big dreams for their people, what follows is rapid development.

The Deputy President of the Senate who was visibly happy with the pace of work at different project site said that he is fulfilled because developing his environment was the main reason why he ventured into politics.

He pointed out that with the Nnewe/ Oduma/ Uburu road with a spur at Ishiagu which is at 80 percent completion, economic activities will be accelerated within the area.

Ekweremadu recalled that until he was elected in to the Senate, no part of Aninri Local Government Area had electricity nor asphalt road.

He said “ The extent of development of any society depends on the size of the vision of their leaders, so if you have leaders who have big vision, the society will achieve a lot, but when leaders have limited vision, then that will be the extent of development of that society. Growing up as a young child, I saw this road as a very big challenge to our people, but today we are achieving our vision for our people. What we are doing here, we are also doing in all other parts of our constituency.”

Ekweremadu assured the people that all projects attracted by him must be completed in record time and according to specifications. He used the opportunity to inform his constituents that each time he visits any part of his constituency, he always insists on inspecting on going projects in the area, so as to ascertain the pace of work and the nature of funding required to get the project completed.

He commended his Special Adviser on Projects Engr Jonathan Ivoke and most of the construction firms working at different project sites for their commitment and dedication  to work.

He was equally quick to laud the state government for their intervention on roads and bridges in the state especially their awarding of the contract on the Ivo Bailey Bridge.

Some of the projects also inspected include the Ukpa/ Ujiri/ Ndibeoh/Lekwa erosion control project at Oji - River, Onuakanu/ Utin road, Amagu/ Amaeze road, Amaeze/Ihueze link road and Ivo Bailey Bridge, Ihuibe/Ihiozike road, Okpara road, all in Okpanku.

Others are Aninri East Development Center Secretariat under construction, E library; which JAMB has graciously approved through the intervention of Chief Ekweremadu to be used by students in the area during UME examinations, Empowerment and Training Center, designed to include a conference center, lock up stores and hotel rooms, all in Mpu, plus the brand new Mpu/ Oduma road under construction.
